Frame Only?
Hello, Happy New Year! I was looking at the Flaanimal 5.0 Frameset but it’s a little out of my price range (damn Canadian dollar), so I was wondering if you might sell the Flaanimal Frame without the Rodeo Spork 3.0?

Chainline for the Flaanimal
I’m looking to upgrade my Flaanimal 5.0 from 11 to 12-speed Shimano and while I’m doing that I’d like to swap out cranksets. I’m thinking of using the Praxis Zayante but have a question about chainline. Praxis has the road Zayante model (with a 45.5mm chainline) which seems to be what you spec on the Flaanimals, but they also have a GR model (with a 48mm chainline). Is the Flaanimal designed for a 45mm chainline and how close should I stay to that to minimize shifting issues? An added factor is that I want the ability to run a pretty small front chain ring at times for bikepacking and when I look for 34T direct-mount chain rings it’s hard to find options with a 6mm offset (3mm is more common) which is what I believe both the Road and Gravel Zayante cranksets use to get their spec’d chainlines. The 48 chainline was developed for frames struggling to optimize for tire clearance, but we solved it without the need for a wider chainline, so it’s better to stick with the 45.5, especially if you’ll spend more time in your easier gears. A wider chainline will increase drivetrain noise / drag in the granny gear because your chain is going to be more “stretched” diagonally the wider you go, but it would still be functional and useable. So, there is no truly wrong answer, but 45.5 seems better.

Spork for my Moots mountaineer
Hey! I have a moots Mountaineer large and I would love to switch out the rockshock fork for a Spork 3.0 Would that be possible?

Hi Daniel.
The Moots Mountaineer appears to be a suspension corrected MTB, so you would need something like a Salsa suspension corrected rigid fork for that. Their house brand Whiskey also makes a rigid MTB fork option.

Serial Number – Which One
I bought a used Flaanimal 5.0 and want to list my frame serial number on Bike Index in case someone tries to swipe it and for insurance purposes.
There are 2 numbers stamped into the bottom bracket. Which one is considered to be the frame serial number?

The non-drive-side number is the serial number. Should not start with CDS…

Rack Fork Compatability
Hi,
I have a spork 3.0 Would a tubus duo rack work with it?

Yes, a Tubus Duo works well. You may need an Offset Eyelet Kit for it, but you could try without to start.

Suspension front and rear?
Hello-
I am looking to purchase a new gravel bike. I was thinking of suspension in the front and possibly rear. Apologize if this is evident in the descriptions but i could not seem to find it. Do any of your models offer this?

Hi Sam,
We can definitely build a bike that fits this description.
Up front we could use the following suspension forks:
- Fox 32
- Cane Creek
- MRP Baxter
To soften up the rear we would recommend the Cane Creek eeSilk suspension seatpost, as it offers incredible comfort and compliance without having to engineer a unique suspension design into the frameset itself. 42T + 10-52 SRAM Cassette… Has it been tried?

My Flaanimal came with the SRAM mullet setup and I’ve been loving it except often finding myself on the small ring when riding across town. Current front ring is 38T and 42T should be possible at max chain wrap, shifting the range 10% or so lower. That said, has anyone tried it? Any issues/feedback? Cheers!

DT Swiss 240 OS Hub Compatibility
Hello,
I am about to order a Spork, however i would like to confirm beforehand if i could keep using my DTSwiss 240 OS front hub. It uses a 15×100 through axle and the contact surfaces that slide into the fork have a diameter of 21mm.

Hi Sebastian. I checked with our lead mechanic. We haven’t fit a 240 OS to our fork, but we measured with calipers and it looks like it will fit. You will need the 15mm axle option so be sure to select that.

Thr axle length & thread pitch
I can’t seem to find a spec for the thru-axle… for each fork, what’s the actual length and what’s the thread pitch?

The length and thread pitch of our axles is laser-etched on all of our axles, except for very very old ones.
Here are some guidelines:
- Front is 131mm long (127mm would do also), 18mm thread length. M12 x P 1.5
- Rear is 172mm long (for Flaanimal and TD3), 16mm thread length, M12 X P 1.5

Tapered to Straight steerer 1 1/8 conversion
I want to purchase a spork but have a straight steerer and the spork is tapered. What is the recommended way to install so that I’m under warranty ?

As of July 2024 there is no way to put a spork on a straight steer tube bike, but by the end of 2024 we will have a straight steer tube specific Spork 3.2, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. The more people we saw using Sporks to upgrade their third party frames, the more motivated we got to develop this new version of the Spork so that it would be compatible with more bikes. So, there is still a wait for a few months, but we’re not far off.
